Predoctoral Training in Quantitative Neuroscience
This is a training program through which you will:
* get a broad understanding of neuroscience across disciplines, from molecular biology to psychology, along with the explanatory arrows that run between these levels of analysis;
* acquire the mathematical, logical, and computational skills to pursue new opportunities in the era of big data, and to critically evaluate the resulting claims;
* make notable contributions to one or more fields where you have reached the cutting edge.
To join us, apply through one of the participating graduate options: Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, Neurobiology, or Computation and Neural Systems.
The training includes:
* One course in Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience.
* One course in Systems and Computational Neuroscience.
* One course in Computational and Theoretical Neuroscience.
* One course in Human Neuroscience and Brain Disorders.
* One course in Mathematical or Computational Methods.
* One course on Tools of Neurobiology.
* A course on Responsible Conduct of Research.
* Three laboratory rotations in Year 1.
* Fellowship application with mentored preparation (end of Year 1).
* Mentored research and preparation for candidacy.
* Many opportunities for oral presentations.
* One or more terms of teaching.

All along you will benefit from individual advising tailored to each trainee's background to develop competence in the core subject areas: "molecular and cellular neuroscience", "circuits and systems", "computation and theory", and "human neuroscience and brain disorders". A special focus is on quantitative training in both general methods (applied mathematics, scientific programming, data analysis) and on specific challenges that arise in each discipline of neuroscience. You certainly don't have to be numerically savvy when you arrive, but you will be when you leave.
